U.S. Caliber .30, Model
M1917 Rifle
Commonly (but erroneously) called the 1917
Enfield, this is
the rifle that won WWI.
A well documented historical fact is that Sgt.
Alvin C. York
used the M1917 when taking part in the combat actions that
won him the Medal of Honor.... not the M1903 shown in the
Oscar-winning movie starring Gary Cooper. Sgt York also did
not use the German Luger portrayed in the movie. He used
the M1911 .45ACP; however, for the movie the .45 ACP would
not cycle with blanks so the Director decided to use the
Luger.
There were several million 1917s manufactured
but after the war
the Army decided on the 1903 Springfield for the main infantry
weapon and most M1917s were destroyed. Finding one today in
good condition is rare - but I have one, and now so can
you.
Mine was manufactured in 1917 at the Eddystone
arsenal in
Pennsylvania, procured from the Civilian Marksmanship Program
and can be yours for the low price of
$700.00.
